This Landscape Architecture project in Oakland, California, situated along the San Leandro Bay, envisions a vibrant mixed-use area that seamlessly blends urban living with climate resilience.
The proposal includes a diverse range of housing options, from low-income to high-end residences, and features a dynamic social hub and a brand-new train station to enhance connectivity.
With a strong focus on adaptability to climate change, the design takes into account rising sea levels by elevating key structures like housing and local shops on pillars, allowing them to transform into "floating houses" in the future. The project also includes a thoughtfully designed park with a detention basin and an expansive boardwalk that will eventually float on the water, providing both recreational space and flood management.
This forward-thinking plan visualizes the site’s transformation over the next 5, 50, and 100 years, employing nature-based solutions to ensure long-term sustainability and resilience.
